While fitness should be challenging, all too often the culture surrounding it becomes toxic and exclusionary – especially for queer, neurodiverse, and otherwise marginalised communities. For advice and information on building muscle and strength, the available online/physical spaces are often overwhelmed by toxic masculinity and dominated by bodybuilders. This is despite the benefits of increased muscle and strength being far broader and inclusive than is often mentioned – from longevity, to mood/energy levels, to addressing various forms of dysphoria and dysmorphia.
TLDR: The diversity of reasons to exercise too often isn’t reflected in the toxic-masc approaches and attitudes of those who dominate the space.
As a Personal Trainer in Edinburgh, my goal is to empower individuals to improve their fitness, while minimising the physical, cultural, and mental barriers which have so far prevented them from doing so. Whether you’re a beginner intimidated by not knowing where to start, a member of a marginalised community, or are simply interested in improving your training that bit extra – I’ll do my very best to make every session a judgement-free, safe, and good-faith space; breaking down any obstacles that exist between yourself and your goals. All of my advice and programs are individualised and based on the latest science – maximising results while minimising excessive fatigue and risk of injury.
